ALICE SWEET ALICE
1976
Alice is a 12 year old girl who lives a life in the shadow of her younger sister Karen. That is until Karen is strangled and burned inside a church, after that all eyes are on Alice.
This is a great who did it kind of film, it keeps you wondering who's behind that mask? Even though for the first half it drags on a bit longer than it should, it's by no means torture and the second half of the film more than makes up for it.
How well do you know Alice? That seems to really be the main point in this film, the mother unshaken from her stance that her daughter is incapable of murder and innocent, however her sister Anna is convinced that her niece killed Karen and should be brought to justice. Even the viewer is forced into different perspectives at points in the movie, leaving you believing that maybe Alice is or isn't capable of murder.
On a side note, I did notice a lot of things in this film that give off the impression that nothing pure ever lasts. Having the perfect child die and the mischievous one live. Having the murder inside a church, a place thats supposed to be holy. The pedophile landlord living underneath your home. I really don't want to spoil anything in these reviews, just keep this factor in mind while watching the film.
