BLUE SUNSHINE
1978

Horror is always evolving, trying to focus on the current time period to get relatable ways to give us that feeling of "this could happen to me!" scares and thrills. Blue Sunshine is every hippy and drug users worst nightmare.

In the 1960's a bunch of teenagers take a type of LSD called Blue Sunshine. Ten years later it has two startling side effects: Hair Loss, and madness. At a party a man murders a group of women and later gets killed. After being labeled as the Murderer Jerry must find proof of his innocence, and what drove his friend to kill.

This movie never really gets gory, but the scenes when the people go crazy on Blue Sunshine are so interesting it definitely makes up for it. You can't help but be a little put off when the wig comes off and they give that stare. You know that there's no humanity left.

Overall this is a great film to watch from the 70's. I really enjoyed the premise, the idea that anyone that took the drug is a walking time bomb is so inventive,  it also includes a disco and a mall scene (a necessity for any 1970's horror film).

ALICE SWEET ALICE
1976

Alice is a 12 year old girl who lives a life in the shadow of her younger sister Karen. That is until Karen is strangled and burned inside a church, after that all eyes are on Alice.

This is a great who did it kind of film, it keeps you wondering who's behind that mask? Even though for the first half it drags on a bit longer than it should, it's by no means torture and the second half of the film more than makes up for it.

How well do you know Alice? That seems to really be the main point in this film, the mother unshaken from her stance that her daughter is incapable of murder and innocent, however her sister Anna is convinced that her niece killed Karen and should be brought to justice. Even the viewer is forced into different perspectives at points in the movie, leaving you believing that maybe Alice is or isn't capable of murder.

On a side note, I did notice a lot of things in this film that give off the impression that nothing pure ever lasts. Having the perfect child die and the mischievous one live. Having the murder inside a church, a place thats supposed to be holy. The pedophile landlord living underneath your home. I really don't want to spoil anything in these reviews, just keep this factor in mind while watching the film.

Ms.45
1981

Thana is a mute woman who upon returning to her apartment from grocery shopping is raped twice. Being traumatized and victimized by the event she needs to get her power back. Using a .45 she roams the streets dressed provocatively and kills any man along the way.

Zoƫ Lund plays Thana brilliantly, for a character that has no lines she really displays the emotion necessary and takes control of every scene. You really feel the struggle she has with the day to day life. How being a victim of rape creates a barrier that divides her from the rest of society.

This is a brilliant revenge movie, for fans of Thriller (They Call Her One Eye) and the cult classic I Spit on Your Grave this is a must see. I actually believe this film is better than those two, it just has so much charm. There's not a moment of this film that goes by that isn't moving, and the last 10 minutes it just explodes into pure mayhem.

STAGEFRIGHT
1987

A cast of struggling actors performing in a musical play get locked inside a theatre, meanwhile the deranged murderer Irving Wallace escapes from a mental asylum and hunts them down one by one. Can they survive the night, or will their next performance be their last?

StageFright is a 1987 Italian horror film directed by Michele Suavi, who's also known for directing The Church and the cult favorite Cemetery Man. This was his first time in the directors chair though, and I must admit, it is a stylish take on the slasher film genre.

The thing that stands out the most in this film however is its soundtrack composed by Simon Boswell and Stefano Mainetti. The music in this film has a really cool Synth / Jazz sound. From the start it's energetic, executed wonderfully and really sets the mood. That's all I can really say about it, it just needs to be mentioned.

This slasher plays it right by letting it start off with a few death's that are relatively bloodless, then building up to limbs being chopped off and a useful use of power tools. The gore is there but it doesn't show up until after the first half of the film. Don't let that deter you from watching this film though, with some snappy dialogue between the cast of the stage musical, beautiful camera work , as well as an awesome soundtrack, and the few deaths in between. It will keep the pace flowing and the bodies will dropping before you know it.
